The Nigerian federal government will begin giving students 100 megabytes of free mobile data every day from October 1, according to THISDAYLIVE. The same reporting says charges will be removed for students using approved educational platforms.
Coverage of the announcement also came from Channels Television, which reported that data costs for students on approved education platforms would be waived. Punch Newspapers and Vanguard both carried the story, with Vanguard describing the move as the government scrapping data charges for students. Daily Post Nigeria reported that the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) launched zero-rated access to educational platforms.
Under a zero-rating arrangement, users can reach a service without the traffic counting against their data balance. The reports indicate the plan pairs a daily free allowance with waived costs on platforms the government has approved.
